Supersized Babies

on February 3, 2012

I came into this world at 7 pounds, 10 ounces.  JJ arrived at 6 pounds, 4 ounces. Together, our combined weight (13 pounds, 4 ounces) is only an ounce more than Baby Asher Stewardson of Des Moines. This little guy came in at a whopping 13 pounds, 13 ounces at his birth a couple of days ago.  It seems to run in his family as his brother was paltry 12 pounds and an ounce at birth.  According to the article, “only a tenth of 1 percent of all newborns weigh more than 11 pounds at birth.”

As if the size wasn’t amazing enough, the mother delivered him sans an epidural and delivered naturally over 6 hours of labor.  Kudos to Mama Stewardson!

I couldn’t help but google to see if this was some sort of record. Low and behold, there’s bigger babies out there.  Larger parents with gestational diabetes tend to have these larger babies.  Check out JaMichael Johnson and this 19 pound baby!
